Most self-care we are taught deals with the structural or physical side of our jobs as massage therapists.  We stretch, ice, breathe, get body work and do self-massage.  These are all fantastic and extremely worthwhile.  With this class I wanted to present a couple of other ideas that you may or may not have heard of before.  I find our emotions and habits guide us through life more than we realize.  We find ourselves in routines.  Sometimes these routines are helpful, sometimes not.  Sometimes they are triggered by our need to escape some emotional issue like fear, anxiety or self-confidence issues.

Sometimes the routines just form simply because it's what we've done time and time again.  The only problem with this is we end up not dealing with our emotional issues, not moving past them, and not being present and as helpful as we can be for our clients.

In this class we will talk about Emotional Freedom Technique and Forming Beneficial Habits.

Emotional Freedom Technique is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments for over five thousand years, but without the invasiveness of needles. Instead, simple tapping with the fingertips is used to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head and chest while you think about your specific problem - whether it is a traumatic event, an addiction, pain, etc. -- and voice positive affirmations.

In Forming Beneficial Habits we will talk about the science behind habit formation and the way to identify and change your routines to be more beneficial for your goals.
